Charlie Williams banner inspires next generation
Bringing club history alive, Club Doncaster Foundation have utilised the Charlie Williams banner at sessions across the borough to inspire the next generation.
Funded by Vikings Supportive Cooperative, Fans for Diversity and Kick It Out, the banner was unveiled back in February as Doncaster Rovers shared the spoils with Morecambe, and since then has been used throughout the Doncaster community.
The banner places the Doncaster Rovers legend into the hall of fame and showcased of all Charlie’s achievements on and off the field, perfectly honouring his memory through a heritage display.
Especially useful in Club Doncaster Foundation’s Health and Wellbeing sessions, Community Officer (Nick Gillott) commented: “The Charlie Williams educational banner has been an influential tool in the delivery of a number of Club Doncaster Foundation’s Health and Wellbeing projects. The banner highlights the clubs stance on remembering and celebrating former players, as well as educating our younger fans on the clubs heritage.”
A popular hit at Club Doncaster match days, the banner has been proudly on show throughout the incredible 2016/17 season; which saw Doncaster Rovers bounce back up into League One.
More recently, the banner has also been utilised by EPIC – a key partner and a local organisation dedicated to Youth Crime Prevention. EPIC deliver initiatives that work to reduce the number and risk of young people getting involved in antisocial behaviour and criminality.
