Staff and participants associated with Club Doncaster Foundation who have recently taken on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge, have raised a staggering £5,795 to help support Foundation projects, enabling us to continue to support the local community.
Heading off on Friday 7th June, those partaking in the challenge, travelled to the Yorkshire Dales, with the support of PFG (People Focused Group) who lent us their mini bus, in preparation for the early start the following day.
Saturday saw the group set off bright and early to start their 24 mile challenge, with the aim of completing the route in under 12 hours.
Facing a range of weather conditions throughout the day, the group reached Ingleborough first, followed by Whernside and then Pen-Y-Ghent as the third and final peak, before heading to the finish line to complete the challenge and returning back to base where a well deserved BBQ evening meal was prepared.
Every participant and staff member successfully completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, receiving their medal at the finish line, all while donning their specially designed 3 Peaks t-shirts, featuring headline sponsor KAT Communications on the front.
It’s the second year running that KAT have sponsored the event & Anthony Temperton of KAT, was as delighted with how this year went, as he was the last: “It has been a pleasure again to support Club Doncaster Foundation with their Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge.
“Well done to the 24 participants who battled the elements and achieved their goal in not only conquering the 3 peaks but also raising £5795 to fundraise for the amazing work the Foundation carries out in the Community.”
One participant, Mikey King, has been attending Fit Rovers for well over a year now, with this being the first time he’s completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. “It was a great experience to be involved in. I’ve seen the Foundation run this event in previous years and it’s always something I’ve wanted to have a go at doing myself.
“I felt this year, I was physically and mentally prepared to take on the challenge and I loved being involved, even though it was a lot tougher than I thought it would be. The group I did the event with though, really helped me and spurred me on when I was struggling and it was great to complete it all together.
Mikey went on to say: “The Foundation has helped me a lot throughout my fitness journey since joining Fit Rovers, and it’s given me the opportunity and confidence to continue exercising and push me out of my comfort zone.
“I wanted to give something back to them, so raising money to help fund projects like Fit Rovers, means that other people will get the opportunity to improve their mental and physical wellbeing like myself.
“I’ll definitely be signing up to next year.”
