Team Trail Challenge raises £557 for Club Doncaster Foundation

16 August 2023

Over the course of 4 weeks, from June to July, our Team Trail Challenge gave people the opportunity to help raise vital funds for our projects, here at the Foundation, following the postponement of the Doncaster half marathon.

A total of £557 including gift aid, was raised over the course of the challenge, through donations and fundraising from participants involved.

Invited to join the challenge as individuals or a team of up to 4 people, participants had 28 days to try and complete a total distance of 13.1km, the equivalent of a half marathon.

116 people got involved in the challenge, with each distance, no matter how big or small, accumulated to an incredible 2,738 miles! That is…

  • 209 half marathons
  • The distance of 41,950 football pitches
  • Nearly 300 miles further than Route 66
  • Further than the English Coast Path
  • The distance of 1,610 golden gate bridges

Doncaster Rovers manager and assistant manager, Grant McCann & Cliff Byrne, were among some of the participants who took part in the challenge, completing regular runs during their pre-season build up, as well as students from Club Doncaster Sports College, who stepped away from their classroom work for a stroll around the lake.

Jessica Smith, who attends numerous health and wellbeing projects at the Foundation, spoke about why she got involved in the challenge: “Myself and my bestfriend joined the Team Trail Challenge together as motivation to get out of the house and to push us to go for walks.

“The challenge was brilliant. I really enjoyed it. It’s got me exploring new walking routes and my fitness levels have  increased massively!

“I’m out most days walking or running because it’s become a habit now.”

Speaking of the virtual challenge, CEO John Davis said: “When the half marathon was postponed our team were keen that we offered something for the people of Doncaster and the many people that had trained for the event.

“Our Team Trail Challenge had a fantastic number of people getting involved, from participants and partners across our programmes, to staff members from across the Foundation and Doncaster Rovers too.

“It's been fantastic to see so many people get involved in this challenge, getting Doncaster moving and raising vital funds for our work across Doncaster.

“Thank you to everyone who supported us on this challenge!”

Each participant who raised over £10 individually will receive a free one month gym membership, subject to providing proof of raised funds.
