Dozens of fans of Doncaster Rovers and participants from Club Doncaster Foundation got together to support a clampdown on troublesome littering with the help of Doncaster Council.
Supplied by the local authority with the requisite equipment such as gloves, litter pickers and bin bags, dozens of willing volunteers donated their valued time and effort to collect several bags of waste.
Included in the group were youngsters taking part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme, delivered by Club Doncaster Foundation, to help spruce up the surrounding areas of the club’s Keepmoat Stadium home ahead of the start of the 2019/20 football season.
Councillor Chris McGuinness, Cabinet Member for Communities, Voluntary Sector and the Environment, said: “When we heard that supporters of Doncaster Rovers and members of the NCS scheme were undertaking a litter pick, we were only too happy to oblige by providing the equipment and then collect the waste once done.
"The stadium sees a lot of footfall right throughout the week and we’re glad to be able to work together – with volunteers young and old – to help rid our community of unsightly rubbish.”
Volunteers were rewarded for their efforts with refreshments and free match tickets to a Doncaster Rovers game, courtesy of Club Doncaster.
NCS Programme Manager for Club Doncaster Foundation, Tom Foy, said: “We are thrilled to have our young people involved in a project so close to home.
"NCS is a programme which aims to benefit the local community and highlights the value of volunteering and making a difference. We would love to be part of the event should the club continue this fantastic community social action.”
With plenty more social action projects lined up for the NCS participants, young people across Doncaster will be able to give back to their local community.
There are still spaces left on the programme, so book on now at https://www.ncsyes.co.uk/sign-up-to-ncs.
