More Budtz on bikes this summer

29 June 2018

NCS Manager and Doncaster Rovers legend, Jan Budtz has committed to using a bike from Club Doncaster Foundation’s bike library for his commute to work.

After discussions with the health and wellbeing team during Clean Air Day, Jan agreed to trial the new form of transport to and from work.

He has borrowed a bike and a helmet from the bike library on a long-term basis, a service that is available to the whole Doncaster community, for free.

Jan said: “I have found myself choosing the bike as my transport a lot more than I initially thought I would. I miss heavy traffic that builds up during rush hour and it’s lovely to be outside, especially when the weather has been as glorious as in recent weeks.

“It’s not always possible to ride to work, as some days I have to be out of the office to meetings, but when I can I will always pick to ride now.

“I’m shocked at how pleasant my commutes are on a morning, people are so friendly and the cycle route is very easy, not to mention lovely to look at round the lake!”

Jan has not only drastically reduced his carbon footprint by choosing to ride a bike to work but the excellent cycling infrastructure in Doncaster means that virtually none of his journey is along the roads.

Air pollution harms the health of million, but there are lots of simple things we can do to improve air quality and look after our own and other people’s health, one of them being the method of transport we use.

Clean Air Day, a campaign in June, is a chance to find out more about air pollution, share information with friends and colleagues, and help make the air cleaner and healthier for everyone.

The bike library at Club Doncaster Foundation is an excellent way to contribute to Clean Air Day, with a range of bikes for adults and children, children's trailers and helmets and equipment all available to borrow, free of charge.

The equipment can be hired for leisure and exercise as well as an alternative form of transport for your daily commute.
