Jon Taylor has been named Doncaster Rovers’ PFA Community Champion for the 2021/22 season.
Taylor has gone above and beyond over the last year to support Rovers’ work in the community, including joining Club Doncaster Titans on their Christmas party and taking part in a virtual quiz.
The PFA Community Champion award is given to a player from the club who has exceeded expectations through their commitment and involvement in community activities.
Taylor was questioned about life as a footballer by pupils at partner schools as part of virtual player visits. He has also strongly supported campaigns, including encouraging teammates to get involved.
The 29-year-old was proud to have been recognised for his efforts and is determined to continue throwing himself into community work in the future.
“It’s something I love doing, so to get recognised for that, makes me very proud,” he said.
“It’s always been a passion of mine, to work with people and put smiles on their faces. That’s what I want to do after football, so I’m currently on a course to try to learn stuff to help me with life after football.
“In the last year, I’ve not been able to play football so being able to do my bit off the pitch, creating memories for people and really making a difference, helps me get through the tough times, and helps put a smile on my face too.”
Club Doncaster Foundation CEO John Davis said: “What has been most pleasing about Jon’s support this year is that despite his injury, he has still been keen to support our participants across the year and hasn’t seen this as a barrier to helping.
“Whether this was through joining events remotely, or supporting with practical campaigns such as the boot drive, Jon’s motivation has been unwavering.
“We couldn’t be more proud of Jon receiving this award.”
