Foundation Fitness community gym opens its doors for the first time

26 April 2021

The Foundation's new community gym based at the Keepmoat Stadium has opened its doors for the first time today.

Foundation Fitness provides a new level of community service for our not-for-profit charity that supports and serves the Doncaster community.

Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones visited the facility earlier today with Doncaster Chamber President, Jill Wood to present health and wellbeing officer Lauren Cuttell with a ‘Business Hero Award’ - which she won for her outstanding community work throughout the pandemic.

Mayor Ros commented: “I am delighted to see Club Doncaster Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation, opening a brand-new community gym to help improve lives across Doncaster. I am sure many people who have not thought about going to a gym before will take the opportunity to go along and try new activities.

“I wish the Foundation and all involved every success in this great community venture”.

Jill Wood, Doncaster Chamber President, has praised the timing of the gym opening as well as the employment opportunities it has created locally.

“I am so pleased to see Club Doncaster Foundation expand the ways in which it is supporting the health and wellbeing of our community with the launch of the Foundation Fitness Gym.

“Throughout lockdown the Foundation provided much needed support for our town’s health and wellbeing, revolutionising its services to ensure a continued provision for those who needed it most and now the ambition to do more is also creating employment opportunities utilising the kickstart programme at a time when our economy needs it the most.”

Lauren, who won the business heroes award following her work on the Foundation's Home Goals initiative, is joined by a new team of colleagues at the community gym, which has created a number of job opportunities while also engaging with the Government Kickstart programme, supporting two entry level positions.

“We’re really proud of the facility and can’t wait to welcome members through the door”, explained Foundation CEO John Davis.

“Being able to offer state-of-the-art facilities within the stadium is something we’re very excited about. As a Foundation, our services are placed at heart of the local community, and we’re delighted that we can now offer a community gym as an extension of our service.”

“Thank you to Major Ros and Jill Wood for giving their time this morning to present Lauren with her award.”

The facility has received substantial investment from the Foundation and includes state-of-the-art equipment and workout areas – as well as a range of safety measures to help ensure the safety of our members and staff.

Anyone who joins Foundation Fitness during April will pay no joining fee, with memberships costing just £17.99 a month with no contract.
