It’s been just over a week since our community day at Doncaster Rovers fixture v Blackpool FC and what an incredible day it was.
Not only did Rovers take all three points but the pre-match buildup saw fantastic numbers engaging in Club Doncaster Foundation activities in and around the stadium.
Free to get involved in, those in attendance were given the opportunity to find out more about the charity and the work we deliver within the local community, on a weekly basis.
Activity stations were manned by Foundation staff and volunteers from a variety of projects, with some giving a more specific insight into the programmes available.
From youth activities outside the family stand, including a climbing wall, archery and go karts, military assault courses and information on our Fit Forces programme, reaction games and information stations outside the Belle Vue Bar, tours of the Club Doncaster Sports College facilities, to health checks with our Fit Rovers team and state-of-the-art equipment being utilised from our University Campus Doncaster team, there was something for all ages to get involved in.
It was a chance to showcase the incredible year the Foundation has had, through the impact stats and participant stories, and the impact the charity has had on numerous lives across the city, ahead of the strategy launch this week.
Half time saw the Rovers family stand renamed to the Eric Randerson Family Stand in honour of the Foundation’s founding fathers, following the 37 years of dedicated service. Eric was presented with a certificate of authenticity and a Rovers shirt by club owner, Terry Bramall.
The fourth shirt worn by the first team, showcased the new Foundation logo, following the rebrand for the charity, with £5 from every shirt sale, being donated back to continue to support the work we do and ensure we can reach as many people as possible within the local area.
Match worn shirts from the game will be up for auction tomorrow, keep an eye on our Ebay page for them going live here.
Speaking of the success of community day, CEO John Davis said: “It was an incredible day, and we’re thankful to everyone involved in putting this community day together.
“Every year, we’re able to showcase the work we do and the impact we have throughout the year, to those in attendance at the game.
“This year, we’ve been able to showcase our rebrand, with our new logo and our marking our important milestone in the charity’s journey.
“As our programmes continue to grow and we develop new projects too, we want to be able to offer opportunities to as many people as we can, support current and new participants and continue our commitment to improving lives across Doncaster.”
A huge thankyou to all the staff, volunteers, partners, ambassadors and most importantly the fans, for the continuous support on the day, helping us put this day together and getting involved with all the activities.
