Club Doncaster Foundation to showcase the charity at designated Community Day fixture

26 February 2024

The Foundation are set to host their Community Day on Saturday 23rd March, when Doncaster Rovers take on Forest Green Rovers at the Eco-Power Stadium.

With a whole host of FREE activities planned in and around the footprint of the stadium, the community day will allow fans to gain an insight into what the Foundation has to offer within the local community and across the city.

Each department within the Foundation will showcase what they are all about, through specific activities and snapshots of what takes place during a regular working week, with various prizes to be won and plenty to get involved in, there’s something for everyone.

The day will also see the highly anticipated Junior Takeover Day event take place, giving children from partner schools, the opportunity to take on job roles alongside members of staff, during a regular matchday, getting a behind-the-scenes look of what takes place within a match day.

Children will be chosen for their roles based on their applications to the Foundation, helping to encourage their creative writing and experience in applying for a real job.

Speaking of the upcoming day, John Davis, CEO of the Foundation said: “The Community Day gives us an opportunity to shine a light on the fantastic work that happens across Doncaster on every day of the week, 365 days a year.

“We get significant support from the owners, to Grant and Cliff and the first team squad and it makes a huge difference to our ability to improve peoples lives across the city.

“We want fans to come down to the stadium early, meet our team, try the activities and learn more about the organisation itself and how everything we do, impacts individuals on a regular basis.

“We look forward to welcoming you on the day!”

With only a few home fixtures remaining of the 23/24 campaign, the Foundation will also be presenting the PFA Community Champion award to a player who has continuously provided support within the community throughout the season.

Alongside this, the Premier League Community Captain award will also be presented to a participant or staff member from within the Foundation, who have made an outstanding contribution to their club and local community.

Following the end of the Rovers match, the activities will also feature in and around the stadium during the pre-match build up for the Belles fixture v Chester-Le-Street.

Chief Executive, Gavin Baldwin provided his thoughts on how important the day will be: “There are numerous impactful projects and programmes that take place on a daily basis within the Foundation, from delivery within schools across the city, educational courses within the heart of the stadium, to fitness classes and specific sessions for groups, such as Fit Forces.

“The community day will give fans the chance to see some of this incredible work, all in one place, with a range of activities delivered by the Foundation staff, in and around the stadium.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to find out what the fantastic charity linked to our club, is all about and the impact they make on the people of Doncaster.”
