More than 1,100 books were donated to the Foundation’s week long book bank which saw project participants and supporters of Dons, Belles and Rovers join together to donate children’s books.
On March 5, World Book Day, staff from the Foundation will be heading out across the borough to distribute the books to schools as part of a Doncaster-wide push to improve literacy skills and make reading fun.
The Foundation’s sport development officer Kelly Jackson-Powell said: “We’ve been blown away by the generosity of everyone who has donated to the book bank.
“This appeal really seems to have captured the imagination of people around Doncaster and the books were flooding in all week. We thought 100 books would have been an amazing total so to get more than 1,000 this has exceeded all of our expectations.
“We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated to the project.”
