Club Doncaster Foundation is absolutely thrilled to announce that we were recently awarded a grant from the Veterans’ Foundation to support our transformative community programme, Fit Forces.
This funding will not only allow us to sustain this pivotal provision for another year, but it will also strengthen existing support and increase the number of vulnerable individuals we can reach. Optimising the programme will improve participants’ mental wellbeing, while providing training for regular attendees will reduce future costs and help ensure the programme’s long-term sustainability.
Encouraging ex-service personnel, many of whom may feel isolated or alone, to come together in an inclusive environment, participate in varying degrees of exercise dependent upon ability, interact with others that may have shared experiences, and receive vital mental health and well-being support, our Fit Forces programme is designed to ensure crucial care is available to everyone in our local area. Affording those within the armed forces community equitable access to mental health and wellbeing support, this programme is open to participants from all walks of life and will equip them with the necessary tools to make consistent progress.
Ben Howe, Foundation Fitness health and wellbeing officer, and Fit Forces coordinator, shared his thoughts on the programme's success: "Our Fit Forces veterans provision continues to go from strength to strength, consistently breaking records in terms of participation and regular attendance. I have had the privilege of working closely with the group and have seen first-hand the positive impact it has, both collectively and for individual participants. We are extremely grateful to the Veterans Foundation for their support; this funding is vital in enabling us to sustain and further expand the provision available to Armed Forces veterans in Doncaster."
Louise Power, fundraising & events officer for the Foundation added: “You can’t put a price on the wellbeing of our local veteran community. Their health, confidence and happiness are far more valuable than anything money can buy. However, delivering this vital support does come at a cost, and we could not continue this crucial work without the generosity of funders such as the Veterans’ Foundation.”
She continued: “We cannot thank the Veterans’ Fund enough for recognising the importance of the work we do within the local community. Their support will allow us to continue improving countless lives across Doncaster. With waiting lists growing and the demand for support increasing, this funding really couldn’t have come at a better time.”
Supporting ex-service personnel and their families, the Veterans’ Foundation provides the funding and resources that make a real difference in people’s lives. By joining forces with our team in Doncaster, their generosity reaches those that need it most. Together, we can offer vital support and provide a lifeline to those facing isolation. This is our chance to restore confidence, wellbeing, and hope to our local veteran community.
