Second ever Fit Rovers Darts night a success

28 March 2025

Club Doncaster Foundation hosted its second Fit Rovers Darts night, this March, as one of a number of flagship events for participants to get involved in.

The debut event in 2024, saw just 8 people compete in the final, at Parklands Social Club, with just under 70 watching on.

This year, that figure doubled, with 16 individuals making it to the final, following preliminary knockout rounds.

Rossington Main FC, played host to all 4 preliminary knockout rounds, with each round involving 14 players, looking to compete for a place in the flagship final.

A total of 56 people entered this year’s tournament, from across a number of Fit Rovers programmes, alongside a small number of staff members.

The 2025 final took place at Parklands Social Club once again and reached a sell out crowd with over 140 people in attendance, creating the darts atmosphere for those participating, with finalists choosing their own walk out songs, for their introductions to stage.

After knockout rounds, Mark ‘The Dark Shark’ Kinnaird and Ivor ‘Charming’ Chowings made it to the final, with ‘The Dark Shark’ coming out victorious and taking home the trophy.

The raffle on the night, raised an incredible £574, which will go back in to supporting the Fit Rovers projects delivered and the work the Foundation does on a weekly basis.

Ben Howe, Health & Wellbeing Officer headed up the event, said: “The Fit Rovers Darts event has been incredible this year. It’s only the second year we’ve ran the event, but we’ve seen more people get involved this year, with a better preliminary process and record number of people in attendance on the final’s night.

“It was fantastic to see so many people there supporting those in the final, adding to the atmosphere and making it an incredible night for all involved.

“Plans are already starting to take place for next year, where we want to go bigger and better, than this year, with new and exciting opportunities on the cards.

“We can’t thank Parklands and Rossington Main enough for their hospitality for all of our events.

“A huge thankyou also goes out to all those that got involved, players, supporters and volunteers. We can’t wait to do it all again next year.”
