It’s set to be a day that lingers in the memory long after the final whistle. This Sunday, 1st February, the Eco-Power Stadium plays host to a game-changing charity football match, all in aid of Doncaster Royal Infirmary’s neonatal ward and our Fit Families provision.
The impact of this match is felt long before the first kick of the ball. On one side stand the Fit Rovers participants, driven by determination, teamwork and a fierce sense of community. Opposite them, Sands United take to the pitch. An inspirational group of dads bound by bereavement and a shared resolve to turn personal loss into positive action. When they face off, it’s not about who wins or loses. It’s about standing shoulder to shoulder and playing for something far greater than the game itself.
Supporting this match means playing a crucial role in two life-changing causes. Funds raised for Doncaster RI’s neonatal ward will help transform the Serenity Suite into a calmer, more compassionate space for families navigating the heartbreak of baby loss, offering comfort at a time when it matters most. Donations will also be used to strengthen our Fit Families programme, ensuring new and expectant mothers have access to safe, inclusive and supportive environments that build confidence, nurture wellbeing and help families across Doncaster overcome barriers to physical activity. Together, tackling health inequalities and ensuring stronger, healthier and happier futures.
From moments of profound loss to the hopeful first steps of new life, this match connects two deeply important causes through the universal language of sport. It is proof that football can be more than a game. It can be a lifeline. Led by Lynn Goodman, our health and wellbeing coordinator, the event reflects her energy, commitment and care: “Football has this incredible way of bringing people together,” Lynn said. “If we can use it to support families through baby loss and help others feel stronger, healthier and more confident as parents, then that is a win in every sense of the word.”
