Here at the Foundation, we always have fantastic support from Doncaster Rovers’ first team players and management, throughout the season and the 2023/24 season hasn’t been any different.
We were thrilled to have ambassadors for a whole range of projects this year, who helped support and promote the fantastic work the charity does within the local community.
From support within our partner schools, attending Premier League programmes such as PL Inspires and PL Kicks sessions to give inspirational talks, speaking with Club Doncaster Sports College students about the importance of mental health, dropping in to numerous Fit Rovers sessions (Men’s, Ladies, Families), supporting initiatives including the annual Christmas present donations, to helping with the launch of our brand new high performance centre within the stadium itself.
The Foundation CEO, John Davis, spoke of the impact the squad has on Foundation projects: “It’s been great to have the Rovers squad involved with our projects here at the Foundation, over the course of the 23/24 season.
“Having the support from the players and staff helps spread the word about what we do, further and wider into the local community and beyond.
“We’re extremely grateful for all that the players have done over the course of the season and we’re looking forward to working with the staff and players across a number of projects in the new season.”
One of the 2023/24 season ambassadors, Tommy Rowe, was named the Foundation’s PFA Community Champion, for his ongoing support within the community and being a major advocate for the award winning Fit Rovers Families project.
He spoke about the importance of player visits and giving back to the community: “The work within the community has been a massive part of the fabric of the club, and in the last couple of seasons, it’s just gone to a completely new level.
“It’s not just the odd player visit here and there, we’ve done full squad visits and community takeovers.
“Part of the identity of being a footballer is about what you can give back. You don’t know the difference it makes until you get the feedback, but this season that’s been brilliant for us and it’s so fulfilling.
“I’ve loved playing a part in supporting the Foundation on their projects and being an ambassador too.”
