Hodgson’s Hundred raises over £1,800 for Fit Rovers Cancer Support

10 April 2026

In a week fraught with physical and emotional challenges, Teresa Hodgson proved that determination and compassion are the driving force for supporting those in need and encouraging others to do the same, raising an incredible £1,828.25 for our Fit Rovers Cancer Support provision.

From badly injuring her wrist and knee in a fall to battling chronic back problems, nothing would stop this formidable woman from doing what she set out to do. Indeed, declaring that her pain was nothing compared to that of those attending our Cancer Support group and their families, she crushed the one hundred miles she committed to tackling in memory of her beloved daughter, Gemma, and for all those battling cancer in our local community, with an additional one extra mile “for the King”!

Raising essential funds and awareness for Club Doncaster Foundation’s provision, every step Teresa took was in solidarity with those living through treatment, fear, and uncertainty. Championing the unique nature of the support, Teresa said: “A fitness programme, specifically tailored for those going through their cancer journey, is brilliant.

"You’ve got that opportunity to have a bit of exercise; you can have the conversations and the quiz as well. It takes your mind off, for a moment, you aren’t a cancer patient. You’re an individual.”

Fit Rovers Cancer Support offers vital help to anyone living with cancer in Doncaster and the surrounding areas. Taking place every Monday, between 10am and 12pm, it consists of one hour of physical activity, followed by an hour of social interaction, peer support and health and wellbeing advice. As an unfunded programme, it is only thanks to devoted fundraisers like Teresa that we can continue our crucial work with these inspirational individuals, ensuring those living locally receive the guidance and support they need.

Commenting on the impact of Hodgson’s Hundred, Teresa shared: “I am truly overwhelmed with gratitude and delight at the incredible amount raised for the Fit Rovers Cancer Project. It means the absolute world to me to know that, together, we have helped people living with cancer access a programme that is so very needed. I know my Gemma would be looking down on us all with love, pride, and her endless blessings.”

Teresa’s week-long challenge consisted of runs and walks local to the stadium; an open evening in Foundation Fitness with 219 Squadron (150 RLC), Fit Forces, Manvers Running Club, and many others running alongside her; Sandall Park Parkrun, with many Fit Rovers participants joining to show their support; and the Sheffield Half Marathon on Sunday, 29th March.
