Fit Forces friend, Teresa Hodgson, set to take on 4 gruelling challenges to raise funds for project, this July

28 June 2024

Teresa Hodgson is back with another gruelling set of challenges, to once again, help raise funds to continue to support the Fit Forces sessions, here at the Foundation, this July.

A member of the military community herself, she completed her double fundraising challenge of a half-marathon and a hike up Ben Nevis for the veterans project, last year. A project that is quite close to her heart.

Fit Forces, supported by the People Focused Group, first launched in June 2022 and continues to be a weekly session aimed at ex-military personnel. Sessions are held in Foundation Fitness from 9am till 11am every Saturday and give participants the chance to be with likeminded people with similar experiences to themselves.

The sessions aim to provide a safe space for them to feel at ease to access exercise and socialise with group members, taking part in circuits, quizzes, organised activities and NAAFI breaks.

Something which Teresa feels is worth raising money to support: “I’m a strong believer in fitness and wellbeing and the positive impact it can have on an individual. The Fit Forces sessions provide an opportunity for various military personnel to come together, share their stories and help support each other through that.

“I’ve attended numerous sessions since it first started, seeing the attendances grow as more and more people find out about this fantastic group.”

This year, she’s doubling her efforts by aiming to complete four separate challenges, an additional two to the ones she successfully completed last year!

The first challenge will see her take on a 100mile Rowing Challenge, at the Eco-Power Stadium on the 6th July, followed by a half-marathon in Doncaster the following weekend!

She’ll then head further afield on the 20th July to take on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, before concluding her quadruple challenge by taking on the Yorkshire Tough Mudder on the 28th July.

It’s going to be one very busy month for Teresa, but the thought of more challenges over the course of 4 weeks, isn’t putting her off. “I’m looking forward to each challenge. I’m a bit of a fitness fanatic, so I know the importance of exercising and the benefits of it. I use running as a coping mechanism, so I know I can get these challenges done.

“I’ve got more of the Fit Forces participants involved this year too, with them taking a bit of ownership on the challenges.

“I want them to get involved with completing the challenges with me and helping by setting the targets too. They can do as little or as much as they want, but it’ll be great to have them support me along the way.

“It’s a fantastic project, it’ll bring together the community, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Speaking of the challenge, Phoebe Sneddon, Fundraising and Events Officer said: “Once again Teresa is taking on a number of huge challenges to raise funds for our Fit Forces project.

We can't thank her enough for her motivation and drive to support the project. Without individuals like herself we wouldn't be able to reach the people we do and continue to deliver the range of projects at the Foundation.

“We're really looking forward to the first challenge on the 6th of July.

“If you would like to come and support Teresa on the day, please come along to the Foundation Fitness at the stadium!

“A massive thank you to Teresa for all her hard work.”
