The EFL Girls Cup got up and running with a competition for local schools taking place at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Schools have been competing within Doncaster and the winner of the initial tournament – Hallcross Academy – represented Doncaster Rovers at Friday’s Northern Area Finals held at the Club Doncaster Academy pitches and hosted by Club Doncaster Foundation.
Hallcross Academy joined teams representing Grimsby Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest, Lincoln City, Scunthorpe United, Hull City, Rotherham United, Mansfield Town, and Derby County.
A total of 80 girls took part in the North Area Finals which shows the enormous growth of girls and women's football across the UK. The final was held between Hull City and Nottingham Forest. Forest won the final 4-1 and will now progress to the regional finals held in Preston in February.
