Doncaster Rovers newcomer Ed Williams has surprised some Club Doncaster Sports College students after he made a virtual player appearance this week.
Williams, who joined the club from Kidderminster Harriers in the summer, spoke to the students about his pathway into the professional game, his sports degree and his experience in non-league football.
Ben Thompson, Deputy Principal at the college, explained: “We were delighted that Ed was able to take time out of his busy training schedule to speak to the learners and continue something which has become an annual event between Doncaster Rovers players and Club Doncaster Sports College learners.
“His pathway into professional football wasn't straightforward and it was great for our learners to hear about his non-league experiences and his journey up to now.
“Ed has a degree in sport, which many of our Year 13 students are looking to take in 2021/22. He’s the perfect player to be able to give them some academic inspiration at the start of the new year.”
Williams made the appearance virtually via a video call in line with the club’s new virtual player appearance setup, successfully piloted by Rovers captain Ben Whiteman and Belles Club Captain Sophie Scargill earlier in October.
Ben Thompson added: “We’ve got various safety measures at the college to keep the students safe, and being able to continue these appearances in line with our new measures is great news for our learners who take a lot from these sort of experiences.
“We’d like to thank Ed for joining us on the call and wish him the very best for the 2020/21 season.”
