CDSC shine on European Tour

19 July 2018

Club Doncaster Sports College Academy relished in their 2018 European tour earlier this month, winning both their fixtures under the guidance of former Rovers player Tim Ryan.

The group travelled through France and Belgium on departure day before reaching Holland in time to watch England’s World Cup win against Columbia to perfectly set up a weekend of sport.

The side then played two games of football in as many days, facing S.V. Loosdrecht and FC De Bilt, winning 2-0 and 10-1 respectivley.

Head of Year 12 Ben Thompson said: “It was a fantastic weekend for the students and the staff, and definitely one they will remember for a lifetime. The tour is a great experience every year but it made it all that special watching England win on penalties out there too.

“The lads all conducted themselves immaculately and we were proud of them representing Doncaster and Club Doncaster Sports College out in Amsterdam.

“A massive thank you must go to Nico Bakker as well as the staff and volunteers at our host stadiums. It wouldn’t have been possible to arrange fixtures without the close relationship we have with Nico, so we are grateful for the guidance."

While in Amsterdam, the group also had the chance to sample the world famous Hard Rock Café Amsterdam, sight see around the historic city and witness the Stadion Galgenwaard, home of FC Utrehct.

A mini presentation was also held to celebrate the efforts of the group, with skipper Tom Stalton bringing home player of the tournament.

Planning has already begun for the 2019 tour, which will see the next Academy team try their hand at a tournament over seas.
