Almost 600 young people from across the Doncaster Borough celebrated their NCS graduation last night at the annual Club Doncaster Foundation event.
An evening of awards, memories, music and food recognised a fantastic summer of success for the participants, who have spent three weeks of physically and mentally enduring challenges, along with a 30-hour voluntary community social action project.
There to help them commemorate the night were Doncaster Rovers duo, Alfie May and Liam Mandeville who were on hand to award them with their graduation awards.
Alfie said: “It was a great night and it was really interesting to hear how much of a fantastic impact the guys had made through out the community, they should be proud.”
NCS Programme manager, Jan Budtz was delighted with the outcome of the evening, he added: “It was great to see all the graduates having fun and celebrating such a phenomenal summer. Their social action projects stand out for me, the impact they have made on the community is incredible.”
“584 young people is the largest programme we have delivered so there was a little bit of pressure to make the whole experience as good as previous years but everyone involved from staff to participant went above and beyond to make the programme excellent and I’m so proud of everyone.”
The NCS summer programme allows young people to escape their comfort zones, embarking on an adrenaline filled adventure in the Lake District. They try their hand at activities such as rock climbing, kayaking, hiking and archery.
They then return to home soil to workshops delivered by Dame Kelly Homes Trust and then finally volunteer in a range of social action projects to impact on their community.
NCS is open to all 15-17 year olds in the region and the Club Doncaster Foundation will begin recruiting in November for the next adventure, taking place in summer 2018.
