Fit Rovers inaugural fixture at Keepmoat Stadium
Stepping into the Doncaster Rovers first team dressing room and proudly pulling on the famous red and white stripes was a dream come true for the Fit Rovers project last Saturday.
They experienced a typical match day at the Keepmoat Stadium as they played their inaugural fixture against Barnsley FC’s counterparts, Fit Reds.
The fantastic experience celebrated their endless success over the courses, but programme facilitator, Scott Copeland hopes to recreate this fixture in the future.
“We’re still such a young project so to pull together a squad is fantastic and everyone did themselves proud, from both teams. I’m hoping we can create a tradition out of this and play more of this fixture and perhaps other teams too.”
“The game was a real opportunity to play the beloved game in the same great spirits as the course is delivered. It’s fantastic to see so many of the participants maintaining the lifestyle changes they made back when it all began. ”
Post game, players from both teams came together in a presentation to reward a Man of the Match for each side as well as enjoy a spread of food put together by our Health and Wellbeing team.
Unexpectedly, the Fit Rovers players also presented Nick, Scott and their team with a fantastic gesture of a collage to thank them for their continuous effort and support.
Course graduate, Peter Norman was delighted with the experience. He said: “It was absolutely amazing to have the full experience of the changing room and facilities.”
“The attention to detail and the professionalism that went into the whole day was a real reflection of the course from the beginning.
Since the start of the course, it’s made me appreciate how much effort Nick and Scott put into the sessions; I know the half a stone that I have lost is from what they have had to say about marginal gains and making sure we too emulate their ethos.”
