Club Doncaster Sports College Academy shine in Holland

Club Doncaster Sports College Academy made it a clean sweep over at the home of Total Football at the weekend, winning both their fixtures on their 2017 European Tour.

A resilient come back in the first game saw the lads turn a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 victory against FC De Bilt before they again tasted victory in the second game, beating VSV Vreeswijk 2-1.

A fantastic weekend for all involved, the group also witnessed a Dutch master class on the Friday as Netherlands Luxembourg 5-0 in a World Cup Qualifier.

Academy manager, Tim Ryan was delighted with the success of the tournament.

He said: “We all thoroughly enjoyed the trip; it’s one that the lads will remember for a lifetime. “

“It was an excellent opportunity to have a taste of Dutch football and the great facilities over there - both to play on them and to witness the Netherlands up close. This is a once in a lifetime experience for a lot of them, so it was fantastic that the all the results went our way!”

He added: “The highlight of the tour has to be the comeback in the first game; the equaliser was a stunning 25-yard volley from Bradley Smithson and it snowballed from there to win 4-1 in the last 20 minutes.”

Getting their names on the score sheet were Smithson, Robson, Gill, Dannatt and Holgate while Jack Roberts picked up the accolade of player of the tournament as voted by his team-mates.
