Balby Kicks travel to Old Trafford

Pulling on your home-town shirt before walking out to the Theatre of Dreams is what every young footballer dreams of, and that’s exactly what Balby Kicks experienced last weekend.

They travelled to Manchester for the day to represent Doncaster Rovers in an 11-aside game against Man United’s Kicks team.

After the game, they were treated to a VIP tour of Old Trafford, getting to see the ins and outs of the famous ground in a fantastic day for all involved.

Kicks Co-ordinator, Mark Cooper was delighted with the day, he commented: “It really was a brilliant day for the lads. They have worked hard throughout the year so it was nice to be able to make a day of the trip and come away with some vital experience playing a strong Man United side.”

“You could tell that Man United train together a lot and have had a few friendly games and that’s the level our lads want to get to so it was a great test and then of course a fantastic experience for them getting to see Old Trafford up close and personal.”

Although beaten in the game, Balby Kicks matched their Manchester United counterparts in the second half after Doncaster Rovers legend Tim Ryan barked his orders to influence the game.

He made the journey with the Kicks team to Manchester to show his support. He said: “All day the lads were impeccable with their manor and representing the club, so they should be proud.”

“There was some real talent on show during the game and it was a great day out for them to experience both the test against a Premier League Kicks side and also the facilities at Old Trafford, which of course were exceptional.”
